Welcome to The Rose and Thistle Bed & Breakfast a great accommodation in Antigonish, a modern West-Coast style home built by Marleen and Jim to take full advantage of the magnificent panoramic view surrounding Antigonish Harbour.  Whether it is from the living area or from our forty-two foot deck you will want to stay for more than a day to absorb the incredible beauty of the surrounding countryside.  Eight foot windows offer a commanding view of Antigonish Harbour, Sugarloaf Mountain and surrounding hillsides.


The Rose and Thistle Bed & Breakfast is one of the best lodgings located on the Sunrise Trail on the Northumberland Shore in the Highland Heart of Nova Scotia; home of the Antigonish Highland Games which are the longest running games outside of Scotland.  Our ideal location affords easy access to Antigonish and Highway 104.  Steeped in the Highland Scottish traditions; our hospitality is world renowned.  Only 50 kilometers from Cape Breton, what better place to stop, rest and be refreshed to start your journey the following morning to the Cabot Trail.

The Harbour, which at this end is a protected Wildlife Sanctuary, offers an opportunity to experience its unique flora and fauna during a stroll along the Antigonish Landing Walkway or explore it by kayak or canoe.

Hiker and his dog along the Fairmount Hiking Trail in Antigonish County, Nova Scotia.Sugarloaf Mountain crowns the top of Fairmount Ridge; a popular hiking trail and a great place to get a magnificent view of St. George's Bay.  Only a few short kilometers bring you to sandy beaches where you can stroll, sunbathe, or swim.  Whether it is a sunrise, a sunset, or a double rainbow above the Harbour; this is the place to be.  Come and see what attracted the Scottish Highlanders to this part of Nova Scotia.  If you play golf, the Antigonish Golf and Country Club is a short drive across town and offers spectacular views of the town and county.

This is indeed the ideal location to experience what Antigonish, Nova Scotia has to offer.  Only two kilometers from Main Street with its shops and fine dining restaurants, such as Gabrieau's Bistro and the Brownstone Cafe, both on Main Street.   We are close to all amenities yet far enough away to enjoy the peace and quiet of a rural setting.  Antigonish is home to St. Francis Xavier University which is over 150 years old and w and wwandaaaaaelcomes visitors to take a tour and learn about its history.  A visit to the Antigonish Heritage Museum will further your knowledge of the founding cultures of this historic town.  Perhaps you would enjoy an architectural tour of the town or day-long side-trips to a variety of interesting locations.  Whatever your interests, your hosts are ready to assist you with trip planning suggestions and interesting packages.

 

We proudly remember and honour our 158 military personnel who gave their lives serving Canada in Afghanistan.  Our combat mission is now over, but we still have troops there; serving in a training role.  Keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
