Sherbrooke Village Loop

Leaving the coastal communities of the Sunrise Trail this Loop takes you across country to the Eastern shore.  From Highway 104 at Exit 32 you will travel Route 7 through picturesque rolling farmland and beautiful lake shores.  On your way, stop at the Ohio turnoff and take a little time to watch the eagles' fish in the shallow waters of Gaspereaux Lake.

On entering Lochaber stop and visit the Berry Farm for fresh berries in season or enjoy a refreshing ice cream.
Beautiful Lochaber Lake is not to be missed.  You can make a complete circuit of this lake if you want to see its beauty from both sides.  Many Highland Scots thought of their native lands when they settled on these shores.

On entering Sherbrooke follow the signs to the historic Sherbrooke Village Museum.  Plan to spend about 3 hours at this wonderful living history museum where special demonstrations are featured throughout the village.  A winter feature of this museum is their annual Country Christmas display which hundreds of people come to enjoy.
Nearby, you can also visit the Sherbrooke Mill and a recently opened gold-mining exhibit.  Take a break for a light lunch at the Museum or while exploring this lovely village.

After visiting Sherbrooke return back toward Stillwater and take route 211.  About 20 km from Sherbrooke watch for a sign for Port Bickerton Lighthouse Beach Park where a side trip along a 2 km gravel road will take you to an historic lighthouse.  Here you can tour the old lighthouse, climb the narrow stairs and view this wild and beautiful coastline, or take a walk along the trail to the sandy beach.

Leaving here return to route 211 and take the ferry across Country Harbour, a narrow ocean inlet, to route 316 north.  This route returns to Antigonish through the beautiful rolling farmlands and villages along the South River.  If you have time visit the Fraser's Mills Fish Hatchery and learn about the hatchery and local angling.  Continuing to St. Andrew's you will join Highway 104 at Exit 35 and return to Antigonish.
