This room is named for the village of Addington Forks known in its heyday as "The Forks." The village was named for Henry Addington, the English prime minister who granted 125,750 acres of land to Jotham Blanchard in 1793. Prior to the railway being built through Antigonish in the 1880's, The Forks was a bustling village which rivaled Antigonish in size and commerce.

The village businessmen included two merchants, several blacksmiths, two carriage-makers, an undertaker, a turner, a shoemaker, a tanner and harness maker, a dressmaker, a weaver, a carpenter, a tailor, a miller, several rum-sellers and a horse trader. Alas, only the school house remains of the once-thriving young village. Look for a picture and local story of "The Forks" on the wall in this room.
