The room is named for the range of mountains on the Pictou/Antigonish border. In the mid-1800s when the sons of the pioneers and late immigrants from Scotland and Ireland were looking for farmland, all the good land had been taken. Those hardy souls took up the poor stony land in the Keppoch where stories of their perseverance are legendary.

At its peak, The Keppoch in Antigonish County, Nova Scotia was divided into Mayfield and Movern and had two schools and a church before the need for a regular income sent the sons into mining, mostly in New Glasgow. Only a cottage, the church graveyard, and their stories remain. Look for a picture and a legendary story of "The Keppoch" on the wall of this room.
